Goddess Durga has nine different avatars (forms) which are worshiped during the nine days of Navratri<\/a><\/span>. Durga\u2019s manifestation as Brahmacharini patiently went through years of penance to marry Lord Shiva. For thousands of years, she ate fruits and flowers. After that, for a hundred more years she ate only vegetables, followed by eating fallen leaves for three thousand years. Finally, she continued her penance without food and water. Seeing this devotion, Lord Brahma blessed her that she would have Lord Shiva as her husband.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maa Durga never refrained from helping others. She destroyed the evil Chanda-Munda who created chaos in Devlok, hence she was called Chamunda.<\/span><\/p>\n
